While the Americans held the Fulda Gap in West Germany, British and West
German forces defended the North German Plain, stretching from the Hartz
Mountains to the Baltic Sea. This was prime tank country, the kind the
Russians and their Warsaw Pact forces wanted to attack through. They had
massed their strongest forces there including the Third Shock Army, ready
to attack or defend this ground holding the vital route to Berlin. In this
hypothetical clash, Russian and Warsaw Pact forces are unleashed in the
beginning of World War 3 in the summer of 1985. Together, the conflict
in the North German Plains and that at the Fulda Gap, would decide the fate
of Europe and the world.
