By the end of 1861, neither the armies of the Confederacy, or that of the Union
had managed to achieve any great advantage. However, that would soon change.
In 1862. the Union army commanded by Ulysses S. Grant would begin a campaign to
split the Confederacy. Can the South stop this Union invasion? Perhaps a
Confederate invasion of Kentucky might roll back invading Union armies and
force a peace settlement. Your campaign starts near the small hamlet of Belmont,
where it ends in anyone's guess. The path of victory could lead you through
Forts Henry and Donelson, through Nashville, Jackson, Frankfort or Cairo.
History may even be allowed to repeat itself with a Union victory at Shiloh.
